Fashion has always been related to any specifities of living. Paintings is one of them. The point is to know if during the 19th century, fashion was influencing painters or painters were they influencing fashion? This exhibition is about this question.
I do not really know if we have the answer. I guess it is more about what you feel. What I can say is that fashion started in France long time ago and for that, I am really proud to be french. In the 1900s, women were so elegant and taking care about each details of their dressing. Men were actually gentlemen and were always suiting up - Wait for it... -. Accessories, such as hats, bags and even perfumes, had a relevant place in fashion. Fashion was an entire way of living. it was not only about dressing. Actually, the activities you could do was really relating with how you were dressed. Following this, women were changing sometimes until 5 times a day only to fit with what they were doing.
You are going to tell me, what about paintings and painters? I'm coming on this. Painters were the photographers of that times. Photography was invented in the lates 1900s but it was not so spread. Thus, painters were the only people able to let something about the life in that time. As impresionism was the trend, most of the paintings relating with that century is in the impresionism style. The movement and the techniques used are soft, pale colors and scenes of everyday's life.
